BBC World News Banned From Airing in China
BBC World News has been barred from airing in China, the National Radio and Television Administration said after Chinese broadcast licence revoked.
A week after Britain’s media regulator revoked Chinese state television’s broadcast licence, the National Radio and Television Administration on Friday banned BBC World News from airing in China.
The administration claimed an investigation found BBC World News’ China-related reports had “seriously violated” rules and regulations. These included that news should be “truthful and fair”, which had harmed China’s national interests and underestimated national unity.
Consequently, BBC World News does not meet the set requirements for foreign channels broadcasting in China and its application to air for another year will not be accepted, the statement added.

Although English-language BBC World News is no more included in most TV channel packages in China, it is however still available in some hotels and residences.
Two Reuters journalists in China revealed that the channel had gone blank on their television screens. Nonetheless, The BBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
While pulling the Chinese license, Ofcom said at the time that the broadcaster’s owner, Star China Media Limited, did not have “editorial responsibility” for the channel’s output, and consequently “does not meet the legal requirement of having control over the licensed service.”
Britain’s Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab did comment on the situation stating that “China’s decision to ban BBC World News in mainland China is an unacceptable curtailing of media freedom.”
“China has some of the most severe restrictions on media and internet freedoms across the globe and this latest step will only damage China’s reputation in the eyes of the world,” he stated.
This a representation of China’ authoritarian regime.
