Berlin Film Festival 2021 To Be Held Virtually

The 71st Berlin Film Festival that was first supposed to be held in person, from 11th to 21st February 2021, will now be held virtually.

The 71st Berlin Film Festival – also known as the Berlinale – that was first supposed to be held in person, from 11th to 21st February 2021, will now be held virtually, because of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Germany.

The Berlinale is a unique place of artistic exploration and entertainment. It is one of the largest public film festivals in the world, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the globe each year. For the film industry and the media, the eleven days in February are also one of the most important events in the annual calendar and an indispensable trading forum.

But sadly, The Berlin Film Festival 2021 will be another festival that will be held virtually, as opposed to a central location.

Sources near the festival report that Berlin will shift the 2021 edition two weeks to early March and go online-only. The European Film Market – EFM – the industry event that runs parallel to the Berlinale, is expected to follow suit.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the country has risen to 1,438,438, with the currently active cases, 365, 673 and the number of deaths that have been recorded is 25,165.

Germany is to go into a hard lockdown over the Christmas period as the number of deaths and infections from the coronavirus reaches record levels.

Non-essential shops will close across the country from Wednesday, as will schools, with children to be cared for at home wherever possible.
