If you’re searching for relief for your chronic migraines, then this might be good news for you. Migraines are painful and a hindrance to your daily life activities. Over-the-counter medication can be helpful, but if you’re experiencing headaches for more than 15 days a month, then it does get kind of annoying. Many people resort to therapies and other ways of treatment that provide relief for a while. However, there’s a new revelation, for me at least, that Botox can be helpful in relieving migraine headaches.
For years Botox has been used in many cosmetic procedures such as antiaging treatments. Women and men alike have been fond of these Botox treatments due to the benefits that it provides. It was long before researchers found out many hidden benefits of Botox treatments, like helping prevent, cure, or reduce certain medical conditions.

Botox is an injectable drug made from a toxic bacterium called Clostridium botulinum. When you eat this toxin, it converts into a type of bacteria that can cause fatal food poisoning. However, if injected to certain parts of your body then it’s not as harmful. It actually blocks certain chemical signals and causes a temporary paralysis of the muscles.
Recently, Chrissy Teigen revealed that she’s been deemed clear to get Botox for her migraines. She mentioned that she experienced “really bad pregnancy headaches” and got cleared to get her neck muscle Botox treatment. Chrissy is expecting her third child with her husband, John Legend.

After reading her tweet, I wondered whether it really works in reducing headaches, and with some research; I got my answer. Now, I don’t really suffer from chronic migraine or migraines at all, so I can’t relate to it on that level. But I do know for sure how bad it can get for some people and you’re helpless if even the pain killers don’t work.
How is Botox used for Migraine Treatment?
The dosage will depend upon how well your body responds to the treatment. Hence, according to the reaction, your doctor can provide a treatment plan. Typically, the treatment lasts 10 to 15 minutes where the dosage is injected into your body through specific points along the bridge of your nose, your temples, your forehead, the back of your head, your neck, and your upper back.
It may take a few days for you to actually feel the difference. You will feel at ease and the headaches are likely to reduce after 10 to 15 days, depending on how well your body takes it. There aren’t a lot of side effects of this treatment but there can be some stiffness, discomfort, or a headache after the treatment.
If other treatments have proven to show no results, then you may want to talk to your doctor about getting a Botox treatment. It’s always best to consult with a professional who has expertise in the area. Visiting a neurologist is highly recommended for more details about the procedure.
