HSY, the infamous fashion designer and tv host, hosted the NOWPDP( Network of Organizations Working For People With Disabilities, Pakistan) Tuk Tuk March as their goodwill ambassador at the People’s Square Karachi, on Sunday the 28th of March 2021.
NOWPDP operates in the development sector with a focus on the empowerment of people with disabilities through inclusion. Thereby, the event was organized to celebrate and acknowledge the right to livelihood and transport of people with disabilities, who do not have adequate means for transportation and commute. With inclusivity as the primary focus, the march was meant to encourage people with disabilities to pursue their rights to work and provide them with mobility.
The event started off with an introduction by Omair Ahmad, the Executive Director of NOWPDP, which was then followed by a panel discussion hosted by HSY. The event was attended by many renowned celebrities some of them including Mahira Khan, Maya Ali, Fahad Mustafa, Bilal Ashraf, and Wasim Akram. The panel segment featured some celebrities and aimed to explain the purpose of the march which was to extend opportunities for mobility for disabled people who have often been confined and deprived of opportunities due to lack of resources. Furthermore, Imran Ghanchi the person behind retrofitted rikshaws also joined the session to share his story about developing accessible rickshaws for disabled people.
The discussion was followed by the trainees of NOWPDP driving in on the rickshaws and presenting rickshaw-themed bandannas to the celebrities, which was followed by a pledge made by everyone towards the NOWPDP project. The event ended with a tuk-tuk ride with the celebrities, around the People’s Square area, Karachi.
HSY has a history of working with NOWPDP on several other projects and supporting causes that empower the disabled. These initiatives are crucial and it makes us profoundly happy to see our celebrities being a part of the greater good and contributing towards these causes.
