Comedians based in Lahore: Reopen the Theatres!
Comedians like Amanat Chan, Iftikhar Thakur and Naseem Vicky based in Lahore demanded that the government needs to reopen theatre.
In a joint news conference held at the Lahore Press Club on May 29, the comedians based in Lahore demanded that the government needs to reopen commercial theatre by May 30, as markets and shopping malls have already been opened. Leading comedians such as Naseem Vicky, Amanat Chan and Iftikhar Thakur agreed with the idea of reopening the theatres.
According to stand up comedian Naseem Vicky, if all the businesses have been allowed to resume their operations, theatres should be allowed too. He raised the question regarding the neglect of artists during the pandemic, clarifying that artists don’t want help, but rather that the theatres be opened again.
Amanat Chan, who is one of the leading comedians in the country, also emphasised on this point, and stated that there was no reason that stage artistes should be denied any opportunity to work.
Iftikhar Thakur, known for his stage shows and telefilms, said that people had become psychological patients due to prolonged lockdown and comedians could play an effective role in relieving pressure and help people relax. Along with the other comedians, he demanded that theatres and cinemas should be open now too.
Now that the comedians, along with the Theatre Action Committee, have promised to follow SOPs completely, they believe that the government needs to give immediate order to reopen the commercial theatre business all over Punjab.
