When you’re living in a country like Pakistan where many procedures are outdated, UBL’s digital banking feels like something straight out of heaven. Banking, in the western world, has become quite easy and is at everyone’s fingertips. No one carries a huge amount of cash and everything can be paid using plastic money, which are debit and credit cards.
Account Opening at a so-called “leading” bank
When I was opening my account for the first time, I had a really bad experience. I won’t name the bank for obvious reasons but I’ll walk you all through my horrible experience. One fine day, I went to get my account opened at this bank because my father also had an account in the same branch. I waited, filled out the form, did all the necessary steps involved and went back home. I had to wait for a couple of weeks to open my account, which was a normal current account.
And the misery went on…
I received the debit card and wanted to get it activated. I cannot forget the pain of not being able to get hold of representative for hours because no one would pick up. Finally, someone did pick up but to my surprise, they told me that the number which I’m calling from isn’t the one that is registered with the bank, hence I couldn’t get my card activated. That meant the bank entered my number wrong and so I had to go again to fix it. This process took months and my money was literally stuck there and I couldn’t get it out because I didn’t opt for a cheque book.
UBL came up as a life-saver!
If I compare my previous experience with UBL’s new and easy method, then there’s a lot of difference between the two experiences. Firstly, the app by UBL has made things so easy. I wanted to try it out, so I requested to open an account through the app. It showed me 5 easy steps that I’d have to follow after which my account would be opened. I filled out the basic details that were required. It asked me for a picture of my CNIC, which I captured and submitted through the app.

I got done with filling out the extremely easy form and within a few minutes; I received a call from the bank. The representative asked me if I wanted to open an account and then told me that I’ll be contacted by the relationship officer. I received a call from the relationship officer who agreed to meet me at my desired place, which was my office. Yes, this is the shocking part of the whole experience. The officers meet you at your place of convenience as opposed to you going to the branch.
Smooth & Simple Process
The process was smooth and easy. I only had to show him my original CNIC and a copy of my latest payslip. The process took around 20 minutes and I really didn’t have to do much. I had to tally the information, do some signature, and that’s all. One more thing the officer told me was that I didn’t need any initial deposit in my account, which I thought was different and worth sharing.
Easy Debit Card Activation Via UBL App
I can activate my debit card and my checkbook through the app and keep a check on all of my payments. The UBL app has made it so easy for us and definitely revolutionized banking in Pakistan. It had definitely made my life easy by making small things easier and at my fingertips. I can log in to my account through the app and keep a track of my expenses, payments, and what not!
