Due To Hollywood Strike Emmy Awards Show Is Being Postponed
As a result of the actors' and writers' devastating strikes in Hollywood, the Emmy Awards were delayed by over four months.
“We are pleased to announce that the 75th Emmy Awards will now air on Monday, January 15, 2024,” a Fox spokeswoman said.
According to a joint announcement from channel Fox and the Television Academy, the Oscars television is going to take place in mid-January of the following year instead of this September as originally planned.
The Emmys are the biggest entertainment occasion to be postponed thus far as a result of Hollywood’s biggest industry-wide strike by writers and actors in over sixty years.
The most recent time that the Emmys were put on hold was in 2001, after the 9/11 attacks when the awards show was rescheduled.
A-list celebrities and nominees are now prohibited from attending the Emmys because of the present actors’ strike; this scenario would be devastating for television viewership.
Additionally, writers would not be permitted to prepare speeches or jokes for the show’s host and presenters of the programme.
The lengthy pause is meant to give both parties time to work out their disagreements, even though there hasn’t been much formal communication since the authors’ strike started 100 days ago.
On the lines of protest this past month, members of the much bigger Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) accompanied the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
In addition to increased salary, they also want assurances that artificial intelligence won’t take their jobs or money.
There have been rumours of Emmy’s deferral in the past few weeks, but neither the rescheduling nor a new date has been officially announced.
The Emmys air in the thick of Hollywood’s busy film award season, which begins in mid-January.
The Emmys, which were originally scheduled to occur on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a US national holiday, will now follow the Critics’ Choice Awards in just a single day and the Golden Globes in one week.
A week after the Oscar nominations are released, the Academy Awards event is scheduled on March 10.
