Elon Musk Becomes World’s Second-Richest Person

We’re sure you must have noticed last week Elon Musk swiftly moved past Mark Zuckerberg as the world’s third-richest person. Well, here is an update! This week Elon Musk replaced Bill Gates and became the world’s second-richest person!

As Tesla share prices keep rising at a staggering rate, Elon Musk replaced Bill Gates as the world’s second-richest person on Monday. The 49-year-old entrepreneur’s net worth rose by $7.2bn (£5.4bn) to $127.9bn.

Elon Musk has managed to add $100.3 billion to his net worth within this year, which is probably the most anyone has done on the Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index; a ranking of the world’s 500 richest people. Unbelievably, Musk ranked at 35th in January and has now literally jumped up to the world’s second-richest person!

Fortune reported that approximately three-quarters of his net worth belongs to Tesla shares, which are of way more value than his stake in Space Exploration Technologies, or SpaceX.

Elon Musk currently only falls behind Jeff Bezos, the boss of Amazon. Bumping Bill Gates is a milestone for Musk, according to the publication this marks the second time Bill Gates has been replaced by the world’s second-richest person. Gates has held the spot for over years until 2017 when Jeff Bezos replaced him, and now Elon Musk.

Gates net worth would have been much higher, and he would still be the world’s second-richest person if he had not contributed to a charity so abundantly, he gave around $27 billion to his namesake foundation. “The year has been a lucrative one for the world’s richest people. Despite the pandemic and widespread layoffs that have disproportionately affected the world’s working class and poor, the members of the Bloomberg index have collectively gained 23%, or $1.3 trillion, since the year began,” said Fortune.

“Elon Musk’s positioning is to maintain a high level of outrageous comments,” Gates said. “He’s not much involved in vaccines. He makes a great electric car. And his rockets work well. So, he’s allowed to say these things. I hope that he doesn’t confuse areas he’s not involved in too much.”

Elon Musk has changed the game with his Tesla, making for a great jump and becoming the world’s second-richest person! Let us wait and watch how long it takes for him to reach number one.
