Facebook Deletes Trump’s Post Over Virus Misinformation
It seems that President Trump's post violated Facebook's COVID-19 misinformation policy. Twitter had also banned the Trump campaign account until they removed the tweet with the video claiming that children are "virtually immune".
Facebook has deleted a post by President Donald Trump over COVID-19 misinformation. It seems that his post violated the social media platform’s COVID-19 misinformation policy.
The Facebook post by President Trump linked to a Fox News video, in which he is heard saying children are “virtually immune” to the coronavirus.
Later on, the social media platform explained the move by saying that the “video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from Covid-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful Covid misinformation”.
While Facebook removed the post only, Twitter had banned the Trump campaign account from tweeting until the tweet with the same video was removed by the account.
The microblogging platform also released a statement on August 5, stating that the tweet violated its rules against COVID-19 misinformation. Whenever a tweet breaks its rules, Twitter asks the account users to remove the tweet and bans them from posting anything else until they do.
Facebook has removed posts by President Trump in the past as well, but this is the first time they have done so due to COVID-19 misinformation.
