Faysal Quraishi Apologises Following Karachi Bar Association Condemns Drama ‘Zulm’

"I’m very sorry if anyone has been hurt," Faysal Quraishi posted a video on his social media addressing the issue.

In a recent turn of events, the Karachi Bar Association has thrown down the gauntlet, levelling serious accusations against actor Faysal Quraishi and renowned media channel HUM TV. Their bone of contention? The portrayal of the legal fraternity in the drama series ‘Zulm.’

Issuing an official condemnation, the Bar Association expressed their displeasure with the alleged misrepresentation of lawyers in the show, particularly taking aim at Faysal Quraishi for his purported use of inappropriate language. Signed by General Secretary Ikhtiar Ali Channa and Chairman Human Rights Committee Zahid Hussain Soomro, the statement leaves no room for ambiguity, demanding an unreserved apology from all parties involved.

Legal Notice

According to the Association, the depiction of legal professionals in ‘Zulm’  has not only been deemed contemptuous but has also inflicted irreparable damage to the reputation of the legal fraternity. The Bar Association has made it abundantly clear that legal action looms large on the horizon should their demands remain unmet.

However, in the eye of the storm, Faysal Quraishi took to social media, to address the brewing controversy, extending his gratitude to Kaiser Khan Nizamani, a lawyer of the Karachi High Court and Karachi Bar Court, for reaching out to him.

In a candid video message, Faysal shed light on the tumultuous events that unfolded following the issuance of the Bar Association’s notification. “My fans and friends were worried all morning. At the place I was at, there weren’t any signals there. So anyway, I was getting a lot of calls but I’m very grateful to Kaiser Khan Nizamani Sahib,” he shared.

“I’m very thankful to him that he called me up and he asked me what the problem was. So I told him, look Sir you understand that as an actor there is no fault of ours in this, we say whatever is written.”

Faysal said, “Yes, this play had a lot of things that we ourselves, personally, I mean we told them that we won’t say this, this shouldn’t be said, so we didn’t say a lot of things.”

“Sometimes by accident, some things slip through, those can be redacted later on as well. Anyway, this went on air because of which our lawyer bhai was upset, I’m very sorry if anyone has been hurt,” he added.

Acknowledging the concerns raised by the legal fraternity, Faysal expressed remorse if anyone had been hurt by the portrayal in ‘Zulm.’ Emphasizing his role as a mere vessel for the characters crafted by the show’s creators, he reiterated his commitment to ensuring that such incidents are a thing of the past.

“I personally don’t like if I hurt someone, because I’m also a part of this community/society, and if someone said something like this about me then it hurts so we will try that next time something like this doesn’t happen,” he added.

HUM TV and the makers of the show have yet to respond to the issue.
