Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, announced to transformation of Islamabad into a digitally smart city. The IT Minister vows to provide free Wi-Fi across all public places in Islamabad. This development will encourage connectivity, educational activities, and healthcare resources.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif aims to upgrade Pakistan to a new tech destination with modernization in technology. The IT Ministry has funded fiber connectivity for all public schools, basic health units (BHUs), and health sectors in the federal capital.
Shaza Fatima announced that free Wi-Fi hotspots will be made available at selected public locations, including metro stations this year. The project is launched by the Ministry of IT and Telecom, in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA)
The new hotspots vows to enhance digital inclusion in Islamabad, making internet access more accessible to students, commuters, and the general public. It supports Pakistan’s digital transformation goals and digitally smart city.
