In a step towards modernization, Pakistan is set to introduce its first trackless, ticketless, solar-powered metro. The Super Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (SRT) demonstrated the cutting-edge technology in Lahore, a “trackless metro” that operates like a subway but on roads.
The advanced technology will use Virtual Track Technology with sensors, GPS, and digital mapping instead of physical rails. For a seamless journey without the need for a driver, the vehicle operates using virtual track techniques, advanced sensors, GPS, and digital mapping, allowing it to move smoothly on pre-defined urban routes.
The new innovation, described as a “subway on wheels can overcome the issues of urban traffic. The technology is used and tested in China, Malaysia, the UAE, and Türkiye. Pakistan takes a step into modernization and advancement.
The launch of Pakistan’s first trackless, solar-powered metro marks a major leap towards sustainable and smart urban mobility. By adopting advanced technologies like virtual tracking, GPS navigation, and autonomous driving, the country is embracing innovative solutions to ease traffic congestion and reduce carbon emissions. As Lahore leads the way, this project could set a precedent for modern, eco-friendly public transport across other cities in Pakistan.
