Google released a doodle of legendary squash player Hashim Khan on April 4, which marks the day of his British Open Squash Championships win that made him an international icon in 1951. Google has identified Hashim Khan as one of the sport’s all-time greatest players – the doodle shows him playing shots in a squash court at three different stages of his life.

Who was Squash Player Hashim Khan?
Hashim Khan was born in 1914 and raised in Peshawar. His father worked at a British officers’ club, in Peshawar, with squash courts where Khan apprenticed as a ballboy and played barefoot on the rough brick courts. He learnt how to play in the club during his off hours.
By the age of 28, Hashim had become a pro and was considered the national champion of squash. After winning three All-of-India titles from 1944 to 1946, Pakistan’s Government drafted him to represent the country at the 1951 British Open. He dominated the matches there and brought home the Grand Prize for the next five years too.
He is still hailed as the patriarch of the “Khan Dynasty”, as over the next 46 years the tournament was won 29 times by either Hashim Khan or one of his relatives, including both Jahangir Khan and Jansher Khan.
Hashim Khan earned a spot in the US Hall of Fame due to his victories in seven British Opens, five British Professional Championships, three U.S. Opens, and three Canadian Opens. He also relocated to US in the 1960s, when he was invited as a squash coach. He passed away at the age of 100, in August 2014.
