Harry Potter discovers that a notorious mass-murderer-Sirius Black-and follower of Lord Voldemort has escaped the wizard prison, Azkaban and is on the run.
Another book, another unusual year at Hogwarts. Harry Potter arrives at the magic school in the Knight Bus after blowing up his Aunt Marge defending his parents from her assumptions.
“It was an accident! We don’t send people to Azkaban just for blowing up their aunts!”
Harry discovers that a notorious mass-murderer-Sirius Black-and follower of Lord Voldemort has escaped the wizard prison, Azkaban and is on the run. The Boy Who Lived learns more about his parents and their connection with Sirius Black after arriving at Hogwarts.
As the trio starts their third year, Harry and Ron struggle in Divination while Hermione appears to be attending several classes at once. The peculiar Professor Trelawney, Ron discovers something while divining the future.
“Right, you’ve got a crooked sort of cross…” He consulted Unfogging the Future. “That means you’re going to have ‘trials and suffering’ — sorry about that — but there’s a thing that could be the sun… hang on… that means ‘great happiness’… so you’re going to suffer but be very happy…”
Whether this prediction is veracious, Harry has a tough year ahead of him. Hiding under the Cloak of Invisibility, spying on students and staff with the Marauder’s Map and sneaking out of Hogwarts on a trip to Hogsmeade.
His new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Remus Lupin prepares Harry Potter to face a Dementor and their soul-sucking kiss. Lupin teaches Harry to cast a Patronus, a form of advanced magic that even the most advanced wizards struggle with.
“The Patronus is a kind of positive force, a projection of the very things that the dementor feeds upon — hope, happiness, the desire to survive — but it cannot feel despair, as real humans can, so the dementors can’t hurt it.”
J.K. Rowling is known for her plot twists and she solemnly swears that she is up to no good with this one!
