Indian carrier, IndiGo made an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah Terminal International Airport on Tuesday after a passenger on the aircraft fell ill. The pilot contacted Karachi’s Air Traffic Control and sought permission to make an emergency landing based on humanitarian grounds.
India’s private airline IndiGo was en route from Sharjah to Lucknow when a medical emergency raised on board. The captain of the plane, given the passenger’s quickly deteriorating health condition, contacted Karachi Air Traffic Control and sought permission to land in Karachi on humanitarian grounds.
Although Karachi Air Traffic Control immediately permitted the pilots of IndiGo to land in Karachi, the passenger, however, could not be saved unfortunately as he succumbed to his medical conditions.
After the doctors at Jinnah International confirmed that the passenger had passed away due to his medical emergency, the required steps pertaining to official documentation and other procedural steps were carried out here in Karachi. After the successful completion of the process, the Indian carrier IndiGo plane took off again and continued its service to Ahmedabad.
A similar emergency landing was made at Karachi’s Jinnah International airport in November 2020 by another commercial Indian airline by the name of GoAir. This landing in Karachi resulted when a passenger began to suffer from a cardiac arrest on board.

Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian air traffic as a result of aerial dogfights in February. However, it reopened its skies for all civilian traffic in July, after months of restrictions that tremendously affected major international airlines and their routes.
