IS NCOC Bringing Work from Home Back?

As the numbers of infected people rise in Pakistan, and the spike in Covid-19 affects the economy; NCOC has announced a 50% work from home policy.

With the abundant rise in corona cases in Pakistan, and an attempt to control the spike in Covid-19, NCOC (The National Command and Operations Centre) announced that all public and private companies must implement a 50% work from home policy into their working routines.

The NCOC, along with work from home, have also banned public indoor wedding and have allowed only 1000 guests in outdoor functions. Moreover, their announcement made clear that cities with a high positivity rate and higher disease spread potential must make sure that the ban is implemented, and that rules and SOPs are followed.

This rule concerns Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, Hyderabad, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Abbottabad. Moreover, the work from home policy and rule shall go into effect from November 20, 2020.

NCOC has also further announced that face masks must become a mandatory part of our routines, and one must always be wearing one while outside or in a public place. Furthermore, the Gilgit-Baltistan Model also reinforces that face masks must be made compulsory in the cities.

In GB, failure to do so results in a penalty of Rs100 and three masks issued on the spot. Authorities have been advised to issue similar penalties in these locations and areas identified as hotspots, relatively broader smart lockdowns have also been recommended, along with the work from home policy by NCOC.

Pakistan has seen a steady rise in cases over the last week, with more than 1000 infections being detected per day. The country recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases since July 24th in the last 24 hours when 1,376 cases were reported by the national dashboard. On July 24th, a high of 1,487 was reported, following which a steady decline in cases had been witnessed.
