Jazz and Edhi Foundation have partnered up to supply food rations to people across Pakistan. Non-perishable food rations were distributed to families at the Edhi Foundation’s head office in Islamabad, with distributions to follow in other cities. The food rations would last an average family for about four weeks.
This is a part of the Rs 1.2 billion Relief Package that Jazz announced – #Jazzcares. The support includes short to mid-term initiatives aimed to curb the negative effects of the pandemic, mainly for the most vulnerable communities. Another part of the initiative was donating Rs 8 million to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre to fund 1000 COVID-19 tests.
Jazz and Edhi Foundation on the Partnership
Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim remarked, “This is an unfolding and evolving situation for all of us, but one thing is certain, these are tough times for those who depended on open markets for their daily bread. These people have no alternatives given the lock down. Our trust in institutions like Edhi enabled us to provide critical and timely relief.”
Faisal Edhi, the Director at Edhi Foundation, stated, “We are open to all organizations stepping in to serve the network of people we serve and are happy that Jazz was among the first private organizations to reach us.”
The COVID-19 pandemic and the lock down imposed due to it have left many underprivileged people unable to afford living. It is good to see that organisations like Jazz and Edhi Foundation are doing their part in tackling the virus by providing food rations for those who cannot afford it.
