I was invited by Varah, the mastermind behind Firefly and The Crafter’s Guild, to attend a workshop called ‘Mixed Media Artology’. I do have an art background and I’ve been drawing and painting since I was a little kid. Colors excite me and I love to create something new with what I have. The good thing about this workshop was that you didn’t need any art-related background to be able to attend it. There were few who were not really artistic but once they got the hang of it, they enjoyed to the fullest.
Mixed Media Artology consists of different mediums that allow the individual to play around and get creative. I headed off to attend the workshop, not knowing what it was exactly, but I knew it would be relaxing. Art has always been close to my heart. I knew this would be like an escape from the daily work routine. Varah took us through the entire process of creating a beautiful piece from scratch. We were given our ID cards that we were supposed to wear throughout the workshop. I created this shadow box that day.
The Mixed Media Artology workshop took place at Hammer & Smith studio. They manufacture leather goods and also have a design studio where we were invited to attend the workshop. The place itself was very well lit with natural lighting. I could see all the leather products displayed at the studio that they manufacture. From wallets to snow boots, it was heaven for any leather lover. The owner was very humble and down to earth; he kept asking us if we needed anything.
We were also served with yummy treats by many talented home cooks and bakers. There was a wide variety of savory and sweet items to choose from. Everyone also received a certificate along with a goodie bag filled with handmade things. I had a great time over there and it was a stress buster but that wasn’t the main point. The whole idea behind the workshop was to make us realize the importance of handmade goods. There is a lot of effort that goes into making handmade things, be it food or any other thing.
The whole mantra of The Crafter’s Expo is ‘Happiness is Handmade’ and this year’s expo will be held on the 1st of December. We’re proud to announce that we’re the official media & publication partners of this year’s expo. Every year it keeps growing, and this year we’ll be able to see over 120 crafters and artists at the expo. The venue is the Royal Rodale Club and timings are from 12 to 8 pm. Let’s get together and support our local creative heads.
