Mockingjay | Book Review

Mockingjay is the final book in The Hunger Games trilogy, and Collins isn’t holding back with making things difficult for the characters. Reading it is like you’re a Tribute in the Games.

“My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am seventeen years old. My home is District 12. I was in the Hunger Games. I escaped. The Capitol hates me…” In the third series, Mockingjay, we find out about how Katniss and Peeta make it out alive.

As she processes the tragic events that have recently taken place, Katniss Everdeen sulks in District Thirteen while the other Tributes-including Peeta Mellark-are held hostage by President Snow.

Bewildered and destroyed by the pressure of the games and shattered by the damage done to the people of her own district, the Girl on Fire is overwhelmed by her anxiety and trauma.

“I drag myself out of nightmares each morning and find there’s no relief in waking.”

Now, she must join forces with a majority of the Districts to rebel against the Capitol. Only then will the leader of District Thirteen-Alma Coin-rescue the Tributes from President Snow’s clutches.

Bottling up her emotions, she decides to work with her team at District Thirteen. They shape her up as the face of the revolution, transforming her into the Mockingjay. As if her life wasn’t hard enough, now the life of Peeta and many others, depends on her every action.

“It’s impossible to be the Mockingjay. Impossible to complete even this one sentence. Because now I know that everything I say will be directly taken out on Peeta. Result in his torture. But not his death, no, nothing so merciful as that. Snow will ensure that his life is much more worse than death.”

Katniss fails to find comfort in her mother and sister. Deep down, she knows that the only person who can sympathize with her is Peeta. . .or someone who has been in her position.

“In the end, the only person I truly want to comfort me is Haymitch, because he loves Peeta, too.”

Mockingjay is the final book in The Hunger Games trilogy, and Collins isn’t holding back with making things difficult for the characters. Reading it is like you’re a Tribute in the Games.
