Mohammad Wasim Appointed as New Chief Selector
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced Mohammad Wasim as the new chief selector, who will be taking Misbah ul Haq's place.
The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed the former Test cricketer, Mohammad Wasim, as the chief selector of its selection committee until the 2023 World Cup alongside former wicketkeeper-batsman Saleem Yousuf who was confirmed as the chair of the PCB Cricket Committee.
The 43-year-old, Mohammad Wasim, will replace Misbahul Haq as the new chief selector, who stepped down in October to concentrate on his job as head coach of the national team.
Mohammad Wasim’s appointment as the new chief selector was approved by board chairman Ehsan Mani following the final round of online interviews held on Thursday and Friday. “This is a performance-oriented world and, as such, my philosophy will be to promote meritocracy and select squads according to home and international conditions and requirements,” Wasim said in a statement.
“As a chief selector, I will always be willing to make the hard calls, if these are in the best interest of Pakistan cricket,” said Mohammad Wasim. Pakistan is said to have a hectic start to 2021 for international cricket as it will be hosting four international teams; South Africa, New Zealand, England, and the West Indies while also playing in the Twenty20 World Cup in India.
“We have a busy 2021 year ahead and I will focus on being positive on selections that not only address our short-term needs but also fulfill our long-term ambition,” said Mohammad Wasim after being appointed as the chief selector.
The new chief selector, Mohammad Wasim, is currently the head coach of the Northern Cricket Association, which is in second place in the ongoing domestic first-class tournament. The PCB has assured everyone that there will be no changes to the selection committee and the head coaches. PCB will select a new coach for the Northern Cricket Association, who will join the selection panel later on.
