NBA Star Kobe Bryant Inducted in Hall of Fame

NBA Star Kobe Bryant has been posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Five times NBA champion and the fourth all-time leading scorer in league history Kobe Bryant has been posthumously elected into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He played the entirety of his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers. He won the league MVP once and the finals MVP twice, along with scoring two Olympic gold medals.

He passed away in a helicopter crash along with his daughter Gianna in late January 2020. Kobe Bryant’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, led the tribute for both him and their daughter in February.

“Family came first to him,” she said, explaining that he loved being Gianna’s mentor on the basketball court. “He was thoughtful and wrote the best love letters and cards,” she said, noting that Gianna had the same gift for putting her love into words.

“They were funny, happy, silly and they loved life,” she said, adding: “God knew they couldn’t be on this Earth without each other. He had to bring them home to heaven together.”

On hearing about the induction in the Hall of Fame, Vanessa Bryant stated, “It’s (an) incredible accomplishment and honor. We’re extremely proud of him. Obviously, we wish he was here with us to celebrate. But it’s definitely the peak of his NBA career and every accomplishment he had as an athlete was a stepping stone to being here.”
