After Etihad Airways announced to launch the first commercial flight to Israel, A Flydubai aircraft landed in Dubai from Tel Aviv on Thursday. Upon normalization of ties, this is the first commercial flight between the two countries. Upon arrival in Israel, Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu greeted the first UAE flight landing in Israel.
“Welcome to Dubai,” an immigration officer said as the passengers from Israel filed off the plane and into the glitzy Gulf city, some of them waving and giving the peace sign. Netanyahu was also present on the journey from UAE and called it a “moment in history.”
“As-salaam Alaikum (peace be upon you),” Netanyahu greeted the passengers on the first UAE flight landing in Israel. “Come again and again and again.”
With the normalization of relations between UAE and Israel, both countries are hoping to generate high influxes of dividends through tourism in the winter season. Netanyahu greeted the first UAE flight in hopes of strengthening ties between the two states, and with the global pandemic- it will help generate extra income to stabilize the economy.
“The start of scheduled flights will contribute to economic development and create further investment opportunities,” Flydubai chief executive, Ghaith al Ghaith, claimed when the service was announced earlier this month. Moreover, Israeli airlines El Al and Israir will also launch their services by entertaining commercial flights to UAE from next month.
The UAE was the third country to normalize ties with Israel after Jordan and Egypt, and both states have signed several treaties stating that they will allow visa-free travel to and from UAE and Israel, although it is yet to be implemented.
Furthermore, as UAE normalized ties with Israel, several other gulf states followed suit. Bahrain and Sudan were next in line, many Gulf states have been silently building relations with Israel. Saudi Arabia, however, has refused to normalize relations with the said state but has allowed overflights from the Jewish nation.
According to Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, after the deal with UAE normalization shall follow. He says it’s only a matter of time before all states normalize their ties with Israel.
