Pakistan Cricket Board to Reveal New Bodies
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reveal the creation of six provincial bodies, along with 90 city level bodies to boost domestic cricket.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to reveal the creation of new bodies; these will be on provincial and city levels. These will be finalised in the new constitution of PCB on August 19. They will be announcing six office bearers in provincial associations, along with 90 city level cricket associations to boost domestic cricket.
Since the implementation of the new constitution, no cricket association is currently working as the last domestic season was directly hosted by the PCB.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Khan, the older 16 region associations have been reduced to 6 provincial bodies: Sindh, Central Punjab, Southern Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern. Besides the regional and district cricket associations, the PCB has also disaffiliated departmental teams, rendering thousands of cricketers jobless.
One Pakistan Cricket Board official said that much work had been done in creating the new city and provincial bodies. They added that most probably it will begin working from the upcoming month under a phase wise programme.
Domestic Players Take a Hit Due to PCB’s New Format
Many senior players have expressed their unhappiness at being paid the same basic salary and match fees as novice players. PCB had initially claimed that the players will not be impacted by the new format, however, the number of issues that have arisen since then say otherwise. The new system of domestic cricket in Pakistan had already left many cricketers unemployed. Various coaches and ground staff members were also left jobless in the process.
The Pakistan One-Day Cup has already been postponed because of the COVID-19 outbreak, whereas the National T20 Cup is also likely to be impacted.
