The ICC Champions Trophy brings about nostalgic memories for Pakistanis. Many start reminiscing of their team’s emphatic 2017 finals win over arch rival India.
Now the reigning champions will be defending their crown in their own backyard. Yup, you heard that right. In a latest announcement by the ICC, Pakistan will be hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
This will mark the first ever ICC event to be hosted by Pakistan since the 1996 ICC World Cup. A tournament that it hosted alongside India and Sri Lanka.

The recent news also highlights the various other tournaments that will be held during the period from 2024 to 2031. These include the 2024 T20 World Cup which will be co hosted by the West Indies and the United States. This would make it the first major cricket tournament to be held on American soil.
The 2026 T20 World Cup will be held in India and Sri Lanka. The 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup will be co hosted by three countries; Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. In 2028, the the ICC T20 World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand while the 2029 ICC Champions Trophy will be held in India.
The 2030 T20 World Cup will be held in three countries; England, Ireland and Scotland. The final tournament that will be held in this period will be the 2031 Men’s Cricket World Cup due to take place in Bangladesh and India.
The news helps to further solidify the return of international cricket to Pakistan. Already this month Australia had announced that they would be coming next year for a tour of the country. Similarly, England and New Zealand have also announced that they will be touring Pakistan next year as well.
