On August 17, Brazilian author Paulo Coelho urged people to donate books to Balochistan via microblogging platform Twitter.

The youth in Balochistan has been working on opening community libraries across the province, including regions like Naal, Wadh, Awaran, Quetta, Kohlu, Turbat and Gwadar.
To help the community, Balochistan Youth Against Coronavirus (BYAC) is collecting books to donate to these libraries. Such libraries and reading centers have enabled children to read literature that is difficult for them to acquire in their region otherwise.
According to Sikander Bizenjo from BYAC, they have been able to donate 500 books so far. He also expressed his gratitude to Paulo Coelho for his tweet.

BYAC has been mainly offering food and support in the rural villages that were badly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We started this initiative with affiliation of Global Shapers Karachi to offer food and support to rural villages in Balochistan that were adversely affected by the pandemic and the lockdown. Soon we began offering support to medical doctors and frontline staff and then gradually to essential workers those in banks etc. We’d collect donations and protective units and kits to distribute them amid these professionals.”

You can donate books to Balochistan too!
If you wish to donate books for these community libraries across Balochistan, you can shoot an email to Bizenjo or through Twitter.
“We have Twitter accounts that are active and people are reaching out to us every day,” he said.
It is nice to see that international authors such as Paulo Coelho are taking an interest in initiatives such as the donation of books to Balochistan. We hope that more public figures talk about such projects!
