PIA Praised by IATA After Audit

A team of renowned international aviation experts have completed the majority of their audit of Pakistan's flag carrier, PIA and expressed satisfaction.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit Team arrived in the early days of September to review the performance of Pakistan’s flag carrier, PIA.

The team arrived in Pakistan for 5 days to inspect safety parameters 1072 of PIA. Comparing the audit reports from last year, the international aviation body expressed satisfaction and confirmed that PIA’s operations and safety measures have improved. The administration at PIA has completed 98.5% parameters and the remaining part is due to be addressed by the body. A preliminary interrogation was also conducted at the PIA head office. The IATA stated that they will disclose their observations and findings soon.

A team of four people conducted the operational safety audit of various departments of the airline including flight safety, ground measures, engineering, security and flight operation. On the whole, the IATA has expressed satisfaction after conducting their audit. The audit takes place every two years and is imperative for airlines to analyze the safety standards for commercial aviation activities under the supervision of the association.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) banned all flight operations between the bloc and Pakistan under safety concerns, days after the country grounded dozens of its pilots over allegedly dubious qualifications. After authorities disclosed that nearly a third of the pilots had falsified their qualification, the EASA and US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were prompted to suspend operation to and from Pakistan. Moreover, the tragic crash of PIA -8303 instilled fear and threat of future accidents.

In light of this ban, to clear this audit was of prime importance to PIA. Although the carrier had the option to appeal against the 6-month ban, PIA spokesperson, Abdullah Khan stated, “We’ve decided that filing an appeal at this stage will be counter-productive”.

Air Marshal Arshad Malik, the CEO of PIA thanked the 4-member-team for their professionalism.
