One of the most famous topic this year has been Prime Minister Imran Khan promoting Turkish shows like Dirilis: Ertugrul and Aşkin Yolculuğu (Yunus Emre) to get the Pakistani youth get acquainted with Islamic teachings. Now, the PM has asked Pakistani writers to highlight the national culture in their work so that the youth learns about Islamic culture and ethics.

“Our famous writers whose writings are equally popular in every section of the society can play a key role in this regard,” the PM stated, adding that any efforts to promote national culture and ‘Pakistaniyat’ will be welcomed at the government level.
The PM wishes to reform Pakistan Television (PTV) so that it can help promote a Pakistani culture and promote national identity like it was being done in the past. He also mentioned that it would appreciated if private television networks did that too.

While talking to the writers, the PM stated that the main challenges that the values, education and training for the Pakistani youth are facing include modern media, easy access to all kinds of content on the internet, especially objectionable material, and the invasion of western norms and foreign culture.
“The onslaught of foreign culture which is repugnant to Islamic morals and national values, is posing a serious threat to our history, culture and social values,” he said. PM Khan added that at the same time knowledge about Islamic heroes, ancestors and national history was becoming limited among the new generations.
In a video from April, we can see PM Imran Khan commenting on the content being shown in Pakistan, stating, “We’ve always had content from Hollywood and Bollywood which was then being showcased here. A third end culture was being promoted. That’s why I want our youth to know the difference between our values and theirs.”

“We have a culture with romance and history as well, however, it is also filled with Islamic values. Sadly, the content from Bollywood is full of vulgarity, which wasn’t the case three or four decades ago,” He added.

The Prime Minister further remarked, “Drug culture, sex crimes are on a high. I want a different culture to be aired so our youth can know that there is a way of life apart from questionable shows that have been airing.”
