The tweet was accompanied by a video message from the Council of Islamic Ideology. In it, Chairman Dr. Qibla Ijaz states: “It is shameful that women are talked out of their inheritance through emotional blackmail and family pressure.”
Marking the launch of this much-needed campaign, a representative of PTI said,” Women’s right to inheritance has been one of the cornerstones of PM Imran Khan’s struggle for equality and justice in Pakistan. We are proud to announce that the Ministry of Human Rights will be launching a nationwide campaign to educate people on this issue.”
The ministry has set it upon themselves to provide proper education to the people of Pakistan regarding the religious and legal protections provided to women, specifically concerning their inheritances.
Ijaz further brought attention to articles 23 and 24 of the 1973 constitution which provide complete details about the method and guidelines of inheritance and women’s right to obtain it in a just manner.
Article 23 of the Constitution declares, “Provision as to property. Every citizen shall have the right to acquire, hold and dispose of property in any part of Pakistan, subject to the Constitution and any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the public interest.”
Whereas, Article 24 focuses on the protection of the right to property and explains that nobody should be deprived of their property unless it is in accordance with the law.
A helpline- 1099- has also been established by the ministry, providing free legal advice based on such matters.
Imran Khan Sahib has categorically stated that if the Islamic laws of inheritance are implemented in letter and spirit, women would be owners of substantial immovable and movable property and assets. Economically empowered women will ensure sustainable national development.
