Punjab Textbook Board MD Removed for “Banning Books”
According to the notification, Manzoor Hussain has been transferred over to the Services and General Administration Department under the Government of Punjab.
Over the past month, Punjab Textbook Board’s MD Manzoor Hussain had been making headlines for banning books left, right and center. Now, an inside source is claiming that banning books is why the Punjab Textbook Board’s MD was removed from his post.
According to the notification, Manzoor Hussain has been transferred over to the Services and General Administration Department under the Government of Punjab.
In the recent times, the former Punjab Textbook Board MD had banned 100 books. These textbooks were believed to “against the two-nation theory” or deemed “unethical and illegal”.
Not only did he ban these books, but he also seized around 10,000 books by 31 publishers; these included books that were published by Oxford, Cambridge, Link International Pakistan and Parragon Books. The Punjab Textbook Board had created 30 different committees for the inspection of the seized books.
The inside source claimed that the books that were seized from the 31 publishers because they contained illegal material in them that should not have been published. The source also stated that these publishers are the ones who probably got Manzoor Hussain removed from the Punjab Textbook Board.
However, when Manzoor Hussain was asked about his removal as the MD, he stated that he was unsure why he was removed.
“I have completed my task of streamlining the syllabus and now it is possible that the government wants me on another post.”
