Fizzy drinks may seem like a light refreshment, however, they could be quietly chipping away at your life expectancy. A University of Michigan study, which analyzed thousands of food and beverage items, concluded that consuming sugary and artificially sweetened drinks could shorten life expectancy by up to twelve minutes.
Sugary drinks contribute to a wide range of chronic diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes,s and cardiovascular diseases, which greatly shorten your life expectancy. Even diet sodas have been shown to contain aspartame which has been linked to metabolism and heart problems.
Chronic sugar and artificial sweetener consumption can lead to chronic inflammation, liver strain, and even stimulate the blood sugar to spike- all of which raise the chances of acquiring diseases that shorten life and living quality.
The beneficial news to this is that the consumption reduction has immediate beneficial effect. Replacing a single soda a day with unsweetened drinks like cleanser teas, infused sparkling water, or even plain water can greatly bolster sugar intake consumption, improving overall heart health, energy levels and even weight management.
Moderation is very important, according to experts. While a soda once in a while isn’t likely to do much harm, turning it into a daily routine is a different story.
