Several People Killed As A Bus Falls Into A Ditch Near Kallar Kahar

Chakwal DC informed 64 people were wounded and 14 were killed when a bus fell into a ditch after crashing with two cars on the road.

On Sunday night, a bus in Kallar Kahar crashed into a ravine and flipped, killing at least 14 people—including women and children—from a wedding party and injuring 64 others.

According to rescue and police officials, the bus driver was also killed in the horrific collision, while twelve passengers died at the scene and two more passed away in the hospital.

The injured people have been transported to Kallar Kahar, the hospital for the Tehsil.

Quratulain Malik, Deputy Commissioner for Chakwal, stated that the wedding party was returning from Islamabad to Lahore.

Quratulain Malik, the deputy commissioner for Chakwal, told Dawn.com that the bridal party was returning from Islamabad to Lahore.

The bus crashed into two cars approaching from the opposite side while it was travelling around a curved section of the Islamabad-Lahore road when its brakes failed, the woman claimed.

The DC continued saying six passengers sustained significant injuries and were transported to Rawalpindi.

Dr Atique Ahmed, the district supervisor for Rescue 1122, reported that a car was still under the bus. He said, “The bus was damaged to such a degree that we had to cut it to get the dead bodies and injured people out.”

In the police station in Kallar Kahar, a case has been filed.

He added that drivers unfamiliar with the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway were more likely to encounter catastrophic mishaps. “Most accidents occur in this area as it is twisty and sloppy,” he said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his grief and offered his condolences to the grieving families of the victims in a message after the disaster was announced.

He also commanded the authorities to give the injured persons the best medical care possible while wishing them a swift recovery.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, speaker of the National Parliament, and Zahid Akram Durrani, deputy speaker, both expressed their profound sadness and remorse over the tragic incident.

They prayed for the deceased’s high ranks and the wounded’s quick recovery.
