Shadab Khan Injured: Ruled Out of First NZ Test

As Pakistan vs New Zealand series begins, the team seems to be facing injury after injury. Recently, Shadab Khan has injured himself and ruled out.

Pakistan team seems to be going downhill with injuries these days, previously announced Babar Azam with a thumb fracture is now being accompanied by another; Shadab Khan injured himself during the first test match against New Zealand and was ruled out after hurting his thigh.

Shadab Khan injured himself after Pakistan beat New Zealand by four wickets in the third and final Twenty20 at Napier on Tuesday, 22nd December. “Shadab will now undergo MRI scans in Tauranga on Thursday, following which a further update on the exact nature of the injury and time needed to return to competitive cricket will be provided,” the Pakistan Cricket Board said today.

Since Shadab Khan is now injured, the team management has included left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar to replace Shadab in its 15-member squad for the first test, starting at Mount Maunganui from Saturday.

However, even though Shadab Khan is injured, Zafar Gohar is a good addition to the Pakistan team, as he was the third most successful bowler with 38 wickets in the 2019-20 domestic first-class tournament.

As stated earlier, Shadab Khan injuring himself is a huge setback for Pakistan since three of the team’s players are now currently injured and recovering. The first two, Babar Azam and Imam ul Haq who fractured their thumbs.

The new formation of the team after Shadab Khan injured himself is; Mohammad Rizwan will lead the side in the first Test. Similarly, Babar also missed the three-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand which Pakistan lost 2-1 in the captaincy of Shadab.
