Shane Watson Retires from All Forms of Cricket

Two days ago, Australian cricket sensation, Shane Watson announced that after a long injury-filled run, he is retiring from all forms of cricket.

Famous cricketer, Australian all-rounder, Shane Watson announced that he has retired from all forms of cricket on Tuesday. He finally decided to close this chapter of cricket in his life, as he looks back to his injury-filled career.

Shane Watson had already retired from Test Matches in 2015, and quit international cricket the next year, 2016, due to him witnessing several injuries that severely affected him and his career.

Moreover, he quit the Big Bash League last year, but played this year’s Indian Premier League, although, his team Chennai Super Kings was unable to make the playoffs. “It does feel like the right time now that I’ve played my last game of cricket ever for my beloved CSK…” Shane Watson said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“To think that I’m finishing my playing days as a 39-year-old, after all of the injury setbacks that I had along the way, I feel so ridiculously fortunate,” said Watson who made 14 in his last match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday.

So far, Watson has not made anything public, however, media reports have said that he had made his retirement decision official to his fellow members of Chennai Super Kings in an emotional speech, after their last match on Sunday.

Now that Shane Watson retires from cricket, let us look back at his injury-prone career; he has played 59 Test Matches, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 International in his 14-year international cricket career. He has played cricket for Australia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and West Indies as an all-rounder.

In 2008, Shane Watson helped Rajasthan Royals win the IPL, where he also got player of the tournament. In 2018, his team, Chennai Super Kings won the IPL trophy again.

Shane Watson, up till his retirement, has played over 700 international and domestic matches, scoring more than 25,000 runs with his big-hitting style, and claiming more than 600 wickets with his pace bowling.
