Shehbaz Sharif is all set to be the new prime minister today
The National Assembly will elect Shehbaz Sharif as the new PM today.
On Monday, Shehbaz Sharif is all set to be the new prime minister of Pakistan. This after the no confidence vote on Sunday ousted the former prime minister Imran Khan.
However, there is a possible chance that the former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi can get elected as well. This all depends on the PTI parliamentary meeting which will be held on Monday.
It will be decided during the meeting whether Qureshi will contest the election or resign en masse alongside the other MNAs of PTI.
If PTI are to make the latter decision, then this fully confirms Shehbaz Sharif’s election as new Prime Minister.
Both Mr. Sharif and Mr. Qureshi submitted their names for the nomination earlier in the day. PTI members continue to contest that Shehbaz Sharif should not be prime minister.
Their sole reason being that he is still embroiled in a money laundering case. However, members of PML-N dismiss PTI’s claims as mere “allegations” and not “facts”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sharif also met with members of PPP and JUI to thank them for their support. Some of the key figures that he met with include Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto and Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
The National Assembly session to elect the new prime minister of Pakistan will be taking place today at 2 pm.
