The Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) is going to set a new world record as Skardu is set to become the world’s highest baseball field. Currently, Denver (Colorado) in the US holds the record for the highest baseball playing point at 5,130 feet, while Skardu is located at an altitude of around 7,310 feet. When matches are held in Skardu on October 31 between Pakistan Greens and Whites teams, the city will now hold the new record.
In a press conference, PFB president Syed Fakhar Ali Shah at the office of Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) addressed the matter stating, “The subject of organising these matches at the highest altitude by Pakistan has already been highlighted by the world baseball federation on its website.”
He added, “Due to cold weather, currently prevailing in that area, it is not easy to hold the matches. However, the PFB has arranged special kits for the players to meet all the challenges of the harsh weather there.”
However, all the arrangements are being made by the association themselves, without any help from the government. He hopes that federal and other governments will come forward and help Skardu achieve this world record with ease. “For the last ten days, the PFB has been in contact with the government at different levels and hopefully soon it would come forward to help us out for this national cause,” he said.
“The PFB needs financial support from the Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination, otherwise, it will be difficult for us to compete in international competitions.”
In case of support from the government, Pakistan could host a home series against Bangladesh, Malaysia and Egypt as these countries have shown interest in coming to Pakistan to play.
