Snapchat Limits Memories Cloud Storage After Nine Years
Snap Inc. has officially put a cap of 5GB on its free storage of Snapchat Memories, ending nearly nine years of unlimited cloud storage. Users that go over the 5GB limit will need to subscribe to paid plans to save their photos and videos with some disagreement.
New Paid Plans
Snap has offered three tiers of subscription to replace the unlimited plan. Free users can save up to 5GB, users that want 100GB can subscribe for $1.99/month, Snapchat+ subscribers can save 250GB for $3.99/month, and a 5TB Platinum plan costs $15.99/month. Snap has agreed to grant a 12-month grace period after exceeding the 5GB limit. During this period, users at the limit can download, upgrade, or organize their Memories, but not starting with the next use will lead to the possibility of deletion.

Backlash and Response
There has been some frustration among users who should have regarded their Snapchat Memories as a free digital archive of their lives since the app launched. Many users criticized Snap, saying “stop putting memories behind a paywall.”
