Since the evolution of internet which came into existence many years ago, a whole new wave of online forums started up where people used to comment anonymously and interact. Few websites like MySpace and Orkut started which were at it’s peak when they came into existence, but slowly and gradually Facebook beat them all, then came Instagram, WhatsApp and many other apps.
Addiction is when your behavior becomes compulsive and starts affecting your daily routine. Social media addiction is also known as internet addiction, is when one person feels the need to use social media websites and apps for very long periods of time. Constantly checking Facebook, WhatsApp and other such apps just to see if there is any like or comment.
All these social networking websites did make our lives easier but people have become addicted to social media. When all these websites or apps are down and under construction for even a minute or two, people start panicking and losing their temper. This has happened many times within this year. Many studies and experiments have been done in this regard to find out what’s more addicting, cigarettes or social media. Researchers at Chicago University concluded that social media addiction is higher after conducting an experiment which recorded the results of many people.
Overcoming this addiction may be hard but it’s definitely not impossible. One needs to keep himself occupied with other activities in order to reduce the use of social media.
