SpaceX Founder, Elon Musk recently showed off a next-generation prototype – A stainless steel ‘Starship’. He told reporters that the rocket ship could being piloted orbital test flights within the upcoming year.
According to Musk, “With any development into uncharted territory, its difficult to predict these things with precision,” the tech billionaire said in a question-and-answer session. “But I do think things are going to move very fast.”
This spacecraft is intended to carry passengers as well as cargo to Earth orbit, moon and eventually to Mars.
A Starship- fully reusable launch system featuring a “Super Heavy” boaster powered by up to 37 methane-burning Raptor Engines. And to give us the look of what it would be like inside the spacecraft. Musk recently posted a video on twitter, showing off the interior of Mark 1’s cargo bay.
This cargo bay looks really spacious and a little rough compared to its gleaming and silvery exterior. Addressing the appearance, Elon said, “Production version will be a lot more polished than this prototype, but still fun to see.”
“This thing is going to take off,” he said of the Mark 1, “fly to 65,000 feet, about 20 kilometers, and come back and land in about one to two months. So that giant thing, it’s going to be pretty epic to see that thing take off and come back … It’s wild.”
The earlier claims of Musk related to Starship is that it could carry up to 100 people in its 1,000-cubic-meter pressurized nose section. Whereas, The International Space Station, which has a similar pressurized volume, normally carries a crew of six.
Before the decade is out, Musk also hopes to have colonies established on Moon and eventually on Mars TOO.
