Students have been facing a huge challenge due to the pandemic. Schools, colleges and universities are closed physically but classes are being conducted online. Due to the sudden announcement of closure, the system has not been set up properly. Students and teachers, both are equally unequipped to study and teach in these conditions. HEC isn’t being helpful in this regard.
Some students are being promoted without exams while others are required to give exams online. This has created chaos not only in Pakistan but all over the world. Since online classes and exams were not practiced religiously before this pandemic, students are somewhat scared and also frustrated. Pakistan is not a country where students are comfortable with online exams, mainly due to the unavailability of resources.
Many have complained that they don’t have internet, laptops or any other resources required to attend online classes. And the universities aren’t helping out the students either. Many were also living in hostels and could share laptops with their roommates. However, since everyone is at their homes, many are stuck with limited resources and can’t complete their studies.
Another issue is that students have an issue with paying fees. Due to the lockdown, a lot of workers either weren’t paid or received deducted salary. The students had requested to reduce fees or completely waive it off. However, there was no heed paid to their pleas and requests.
HEC, in this regard, is not being very helpful and has not made any decision to help university students. Hence, students have been protesting online. #SuspendOnlineClasses_HEC has been trending on Twitter, many students are contributing to this hashtag. There has been little to no response from HEC over this matter as of yet.

A very important point for respected chairman HEC and for all those who are trying to manipulate our demands of promoting students without papers.#SuspendOnlineExams_HEC#SuspendOnlineClassesNOW pic.twitter.com/ODfllWF44K
