T20I Zimbabwe Series and PSL Moved From Lahore

With the increase in air pollution in Lahore and the worsening air quality, PCB has moved the T20I Zimbabwe series and PSL matches elsewhere.

The three matches of the T20I Zimbabwe series, along with a few HBL PSL rounds were initially to be held in Lahore, however, the matches have been moved to Rawalpindi due to the highly compromised air quality in Lahore. PCB made an official announcement on Friday confirming that the locations had been changed.

They further mentioned that apart from the Zimbabwe T20I series, the HBL PSL matches will also be moved from Lahore to Karachi because Lahore air quality is predicted to worsen over the month, as pollution is said to deepen. The dates of these matches remained unchanged, however.

“Following the sudden deterioration in air quality and now further expected air pollution in November, we have made a swift decision to move the matches scheduled in Lahore,” says Wasim Khan, the PCB Chief Executive. “We have been keeping a close eye on air quality forecasts over the last two weeks.”

“The early onset of hazardous pollution and subsequent poor air quality meant that the risk to keep matches in Lahore at this stage was too great. An early decision was made to ensure logistical challenges could be dealt with sooner rather than later. We cannot and will not compromise on the health and wellbeing of the players or officials. I am grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket, the franchise owners, broadcast partners, and our valued commercial partners for their understanding in supporting our decision,” he further says.

Keeping in mind the changes with the T20I Zimbabwe series, High-Performance Department has decided to let all players participating in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to return to their homes after the third round for a break, and are required to get tested for corona as soon as they reach home. The fourth round will begin by the 20th of November in Karachi, before which every player will have to undergo a corona test upon arrival as well.

The new schedule for the T20I Zimbabwe series is:

  • 1st T20, Rawalpindi, Nov 7th at 3:30 PST
  • 2nd T20, Rawalpindi, 8th Nov at 3:30 PST
  • 3rd T20, Rawalpindi, 10th Nov at 3:30 PST
