At the beginning of the summer, the monarch spends a week at the palace. It is her official residence in all of Scotland and she comes to live here whenever she has some sort of royal engagement or ceremony to attend. The palace is open to the public for visit, except when the royals are living there.
Edinburgh Old Town:
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the district is home to some of the most prolific monuments in all of Scotland, ranging from Edinburgh Castle and Palace of Holyroodhouse to St Giles Cathedral and the National Museum of Scotland. The buildings and street layouts are reminiscent of a medieval era. The district is also home to the famous Princess Street, a prominent street which offers a great view of the castle and is home to several shopping outlets.
St Giles Cathedral:
Located in the Old Town of Scotland, St Giles Cathedral is the parish church of the Church of Scotland. The church was founded in the twelfth century and is one of the most prominent religious buildings in all of Scotland. The church is considered one of the most prominent points of interest in the capital due to its rich history. If your planning on visiting the capital, make sure to give this cathedral a visit.
