Who doesn’t want stronger, healthier, and easier to manage hair? It’s quite the challenge, to get there. Most of us share several hair issues that prevent us from achieving our healthier hair goal.
Even though your genetics could be the reason why you have thinner hair because they do determine your hair type, strength, and volume. However, that doesn’t mean you have no control over your hair, you can achieve healthier hair.
In this article, I will share with you 5 tips and tricks that will help you strengthen your strands, boost your hair growth, and enhance the look and feel- making your hair healthier.
Limit Using Heat
Blow dryers, straighteners, curlers all have a considerably bad effect on your hair, especially if you have fine or damaged hair. Too much heat can weaken your hair, resulting in hair fall or strands that are damaged, dry, or frizzy. Say goodbye to healthier hair.
It is preferred to keep your hair healthy that you keep the blow dryer at least 6 inches away from your face, and keep it moving rather than leaving it in one spot. That way, the heat is distributed and not constantly damaging one side.
Moreover, for healthier hair, you must limit heat styling to at least 2-3 times a week than every day. You may also want to consider using a heat protectant product on your hair to minimize damage.
Give Your Vitamin Intake a Boost
Your hair also needs vitamins, just like the rest of your body. You need to take specific vitamins for longer and healthier hair such as:
- Vitamin A: found in sweet potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, spinach, milk, eggs, and yogurt
- B vitamins, especially biotin found in egg yolk, liver, salmon, avocados, nuts and seeds, and dairy products
- Vitamin C: good sources include citrus fruits, strawberries, and bell peppers
- Vitamin D: found in fatty fish, egg yolk, and fortified foods like milk and orange juice
- Vitamin E: good sources include sunflower seeds, almonds, spinach, and avocados
- Iron: found in oysters, clams, eggs, red meat, lentils, and spinach
- Zinc: good sources include oysters, beef, pumpkin seeds, and lentils
You can also take certain multivitamin supplements for healthier hair. However, make sure to check in with your doctor before taking any supplements.
An Egg Yolk Mask
Egg yolk contains the same proteins that make up a strong hair follicle, the peptides in an egg yolk also promote hair growth and gives you healthier hair.
You can make your egg yolk mask by following these steps:
- Use 3 egg yolks and 3–4 tbsp. of slightly warm coconut oil.
- Mix the two ingredients well.
- Once the mixture is well-blended, apply it to your scalp and roots.
- Put a shower cap over your head once the mixture has been applied.
- Let it sit on your head for 10–15 minutes.
- Rinse it out with cool water.
Add Aloe Vera to Your Haircare Routine
Since Aloe Vera is rich in vitamin A, C and E it is good for your hair and bound to give your healthier hair. These vitamins may help promote healthy cell growth, including the cells in your hair. Also, aloe vera contains vitamin B-12 and folic acid, both of which may help promote healthy hair.
Moreover, you can apply the pure gel of the aloe plant to your hair and scalp or look for hair products that contain aloe vera ingredients to get yourself healthier hair!
Dry Your Hair with a T-shirt Instead of a Towel
Multiple studies found out that drying your hair with a towel can cause it damage and breakage due to the friction it creates. To get healthier hair, you should opt for a t-shirt.
The smooth T-shirt fabric will create less friction when drying and, therefore, less damage and frizz. To obtain healthier hair, here’s how to use a tee on your hair:
- After washing and rinsing, gently squeeze sections of your hair to remove as much water as possible.
- Bend your head forward and wrap the T-shirt around your head in a turban style.
- Leave your damp hair wrapped in the shirt for 5–10 minutes, then unwrap.
- Gently squeeze the T-shirt around any sections of hair that have excess moisture, then dry and style as usual.
Conclusion
Achieving strong, long, and healthier hair requires lots of effort. While minimizing heat damage and over-washing is important, what you put into your body is just as essential. Eating a balanced diet that includes a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and sources of protein can help boost the health of your hair and scalp.
