Turkey on Set to Boycott French Products
French President upsets Muslims worldwide as he issues statements in support of blasphemous content. In turn, Turkey decides to boycott French products.
In light of recent events, when Prime Minister, Imran Khan, called out the French President for supporting blasphemous cartoon depicting the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Turkey boycott French products, in reaction to recent statements by France’s President Emmanuel Macron, who has supported the publishing of blasphemous cartoons targeting Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
“I call on my people here. Never give credit to French-labelled goods, don’t buy them,” he said during a televised speech in Ankara on Monday. Tensions between Turkey and France have been longstanding; as Erdogan called upon Macron needing a mental check, the French ambassador was called back from Turkey.
However, Muslims all over the world support Turkey’s boycott of French products, as any depictions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) are seen as insulting to Islam, and the community.
Moreover, Erdogan says he stands by his statement that Macron needs a mental check and urges other European states to stand up against such Islamophobia. “European politicians should say ‘stop’ to the hate campaign led by French President Macron,” he said. He called on world leaders to “protect Muslims together”.
France and Turkey have been known to disagree on several issues, they have had this cold war brewing for quite some time. They disagreed over tensions in the eastern Mediterranean, the war in Libya, and the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh recently due to which Turkey finally deciding to boycott French products is understandable.
While on the other hand, Macron, says that France needs stricter laws and Islamist separatism must be kept in check. The issue arose when a teacher in France was beheaded for showing insulting cartoons of the Prophet (PBUH) in class. Macron issued a statement saying that France would not give up cartoons, saddening Muslims all over the world.
Earlier, Prime Minister, Imran Khan also urged the CEO of Facebook to take into notice any or all Islamophobic content and in a series of tweets expressed his resentment against the French President and his claims.
