Students of SZABIST Karachi have taken a step to educating people for free. The students have started a campaign by the name of ‘Umeed’, which focuses on the Goal 4 of UN which promotes educational equality. And they took a start from the Security Guards at SZABIST. Well, these Guards are not the usual ones, to be honest. They are like brothers to many students while a help to others. Whether it be the dusty parking or the crowded university, they will be there to help you out in any particular way.
Team Umeed has been teaching in SZABIST since the end of September. Many different guards have availed this facility to study. Few couldn’t have continued school because of either financial issues or had been family problems to deal with. But now, they are being taught from the basics such as Math, English and Urdu. Keeping the same pattern as any educational institution, they are taught and then have to pass an exam to move to the next level. The teachers are the students of SZABIST, so it helps both the guards and the students to learn new things.
Education, is an important part of everyone’s life. One does not only gain knowledge but tends to become a better person when he/she taught, even the basics of today’s education. And that is what Umeed aims for. And that is what every other organization should look forward to. Because at the end of the day, everyone deserves education.
