WHO Donates Two PCR Machines to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
WHO has donated two of the latest PCR to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa improve testing for COVID-19 and help the government tackle the issue better.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has donated two of the latest PCR to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KPK) health department to improve testing for COVID-19 and help the government tackle the issue better.
Dr Palitha Mahipala, WHO representativeDr Palitha Mahipala met Health Minister Taimur Saleem Khan Jhagra to discuss KPK’s response to COVID-19 and stated that WHO will stand by the province to help the people not get infected. Mahipala mentioned the need to ensure infection control within hospitals and that WHO has taken actions to disinfect the hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also stated that WHO has taken steps to train the medical staff in swab collection and management of the COVID-19 patients.
Mahipala also remarked on the importance of testing, as they play an important role in identification of patients, which would allow us to isolate the positive patients and help better manage the pandemic.
Both Dr Mahipala and WHO’s provincial chief Dr Saeed Akbar Khan both visited the Directorate of the General Health Services offices in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Director General Health Services, Dr Niaz Mohammad, briefed the WHO provincial chief about the current situation of COVID-19 and the government’s response to tackle it.
WHO representatives also handed over 500 personal protective kits, 500 bottles hand sanitizers, 500 surgical face masks, 500 N95 masks and 5000-piece shoe-covers to the department.
