2021 T20 Might Shift To UAE From India: PCB

2021 T20 might shift to UAE from India due to coronavirus, as said by Pakistan Cricket Board, Chief Executive Wasim Khan.

The 2021 T20 that is for now scheduled to take place in India, in October 2021, might shift to UAE as while speaking in an interview on the Cricket Baaz YouTube channel, the chief executive said that the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in India shows a prominent risk, that might force the International Cricket Council – ICC – to shift the grand event.

“There is still some uncertainty over the World T20 being held in India, yes because of the Covid-19 situation there. It could be in UAE,” Khan said.

Even the Indian Premier League – IPL – this year took place in UAE as the coronavirus cases in India kept increasing in recent months.

Khan also reiterated his stance of demanding assurance from the ICC that Pakistani players won’t face any problems in obtaining visas for the 2021 T20 World Cup in India.

“Yes Mani Sahab (PCB chief Ehsan Mani) has written to them and requested them that given the state of relations between India and Pakistan, it would be best if the ICC and BCCI gives a written assurance about the visas being issued to us,” he said.

The UAE is also home to the International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters. The ICC announced last week that India retained their right as hosts of the 2021 event with it scheduled to take place in October and November. This year’s tournament, which had been penciled in from October 18 to November 15, was postponed to 2022.

The hosts for the Asia Cup 2020, PCB exchanged hosting rights for the tournament with Sri Lanka Cricket – SLC – after the tournament was postponed due to the pandemic. Through this arrangement, The SLC will now host the rescheduled Asia Cup expected in June 2021 while the PCB will host the Asia Cup 2022.

“The next Asia Cup will be hosted in Sri Lanka in June and we have got hosting rights now for the 2022 Asia Cup,” Wasim concluded.
