22nd Chief of Naval Staff: Admiral Niazi

In a ceremony in Islamabad, former CNS announced the end of his tenure and passed on the script to Admiral Niazi as the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff.

A ceremony took place to celebrate the announcement of the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff in Islamabad, today. In the ceremony, former chief of naval staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi passed on the script to Admiral Niazi.

During his farewell speech, Admiral Zafar stated that his primary focus during his reign was to transform Pakistan Navy into a combat-ready force with special emphasis on optimum battle preparedness and professional competence. He continued by praising the efforts of the Pakistan Navy and its officers. Further, he talked about his vision for Pakistan’s Navy, saying that a fleet size of over 50 ships, including 20 major ships are envisioned to add and enhance the naval force and that four Chinese Frigates will be introduced in the next few years, whereas four Turkish medium-class ships will be brought in between 2023 and 2025.

He further said that he believes that the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff is a capable candidate with relevant experience in the field and is confident that the Pakistan Navy will prosper under Admiral Niazi’s rein.

The 22nd chief of naval staff has had ample experience; as he previously served as a principal secretary to the Chief of the Naval Staff, been head of the F-22P Mission to China, deputy chief of naval staff (training and evaluation) and director-general Naval intelligence. He was also commissioned in the operations branch of the Navy in 1985 and won the Sword of Honour upon completion of initial training at the Pakistan Naval Academy.

Moreover, the 22nd chief of naval staff, Admiral Niazi is a graduate of the Army Command and Staff College Quetta and National Defence University in Islamabad. He also happens to have a degree in underwater acoustics from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China.

To add to the list of his accomplishments, Admiral Niazi, the 22nd Chief of Naval Staff, has also received the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Basalat. He has also been conferred with the French Medal Chevalier (Knight) by the government of France.
