3 Simple Homemade Exfoliating Scrubs

It's summer time and we've got some exciting scrubs for you to try out which can help you keep your skin fresh and hydrated.

One may ask the question, ‘Why do I need to exfoliate my skin?’. It’s simple and I’ll try to explain it to the best of my ability. The top surface of our skin starts to buildup and it doesn’t shed the dead skin cells on its own which may cause your skin to look dull and may even clog your pores. That is where the process of exfoliation comes in and saves the day.

How to exfoliate

This process of exfoliation includes removal of the dead skin cells which may clog pores and your beauty routine might not be as effective as you think if these sneaky guys stay intact. Exfoliation is a very simple process which doesn’t require much effort and if done correctly, it can yield amazing results. You just need a mild and gentle scrub which can scrub away all the dead skin cells and help you in penetrating your moisturisers at a deeper level which gives much effective and better results.

You can spend on luscious and luxurious exfoliating scrub and there’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re on a budget or if you generally want to try something new but homemade then I’ve got you covered. I have put together five very easy and simple homemade scrub recipes that are edible as well.

Coffee and Honey Scrub

Take equal amounts of both coffee and honey, mix it together and apply it on your face or your body in circular motion to scrub away the dead skin and reveal the new and healthy skin underneath it. Caffeine found in coffee scrubs increases blood flow and it’s very good for reducing cellulite. Honey is a natural antioxidant ingredient which is amazing for your skin and it gently cleanses your skin without drying it out. It’s also great for acne.

Coconut and Brown Sugar Scrub

This one is great if you want to focus on specific dry patches and gently remove dead skin. You can use this on your body as well and target area like your knees, elbows and heels. Brown sugar is extremely soft and gentler than salt and white sugar hence it will not irritate the skin. Mix 1 cup of brown sugar and ½ cup of melted coconut oil and voila! You have a perfect scrub which is mild but gets the job done. Rinse with warm water after using this scrub.

Himalayan Pink Salt Scrub

Himalayan pink salt is a great way to aggressively exfoliate your skin which is why it is recommended to use this once a weekly only. It contains minerals and micro minerals that are necessary for your body such as calcium, chloride, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium. The ingredients required to make this scrub are:

  • 1 cup Himalayan Pink Salt
  • 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5-6 drops of essential oil (preferable lavender oil)
  • ½ cup of coconut oil
