300,000 Pakistanis Fail to Get Second Dose of Vaccine

Despite the government's awareness to get vaccinated, around 300,000 recipients of the first dose failed to get their second jab of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Despite the Pakistani government’s consistent emphasis on the need of getting vaccinated for Covid-19, 300,000 recipients of the first dose have failed to return to get their second dose of the vaccine.

Head of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Asad Umar revealed that a call centre is underway of being set up. The call centre will contact these people and convince them to get their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

An official of the Ministry of the National Health Services (NHS) stated that in Pakistan the second dose of the majority of vaccines, apart from AstraZeneca, was administered after an interval of three weeks. The second dose of the UK vaccine, on the contrary, is given after 12 weeks.

“Around 300,000 first dose recipients never showed up on their due dates,” he claimed.

“We are categorising such people; there is a possibility that some of them might have died before getting their second dose. Another group that has been identified consists of those who contracted Covid-19 after receiving their first dose and then decided not to get the second one. Others might have fallen to the negative propaganda and skipped the vaccination,” he added.

According to official statistics, on May 24, 120,960 citizens were scheduled to get the second dose, but only 77,136 contacted the vaccination centres. Similarly, 183,601 people were due to get their second dose on May 25 but 87,169 received them. 187,978 people had their due date on May 26 but only 90,160 showed up.

Asad Umar said messages were being sent to those who failed to reach vaccination centres on their second dose due dates.

In other news, Pakistan reported the lowest number of positive cases on Monday since March 8. 1,490 cases and 58 deaths in a single day. This was the lowest number of positive cases recorded since March 8 when 1,353 patients were found carrying the virus
