70+ Hollywood Celebrities Write to Joe Biden Asking for a Ceasefire in Gaza
Around 76 Hollywood celebrities wrote a letter to Joe Biden to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. The list includes names like Dua Lipa and Channing Tatum.
A truce between Israel and Gaza is being pushed for by dozens of Hollywood actors and musicians, including the Oscar-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix and comedian Jon Stewart.
On October 7, Hamas carried out their worst assault on Israel to date, seizing 200 captives and killing 1,400 people. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israel has attacked Gaza since that time and has thus far murdered 4,137 Palestinians.
In a letter to Biden, the famous people urged him to remember all the lives lost in the Holy Land of Gaza by calling for and facilitating an immediate cease-fire, stopping the terrorist attacks in Gaza, and securing the liberation of captives.
“We refuse to tell future generations the story of our silence, that we stood by and did nothing. As [United Nations] Emergency Relief Chief Martin Griffiths told UN News, ‘History is watching’,” they claimed in the letter, using Griffiths’ remark.
There are currently 76 people who have signed the Gaza ceasefire petition, which was disseminated by the group Artists 4 Ceasefire. The list includes popular names like Yara Shahidi, Dua Lipa. Andrew Garfield, America Ferrera, Channing Tatum, Hasan Minhaj, Kristen Stewart, Mark Ruffalo and many more.
The letter stated that “Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them [people of Gaza]”.
On Friday, Biden expressed his optimism that trucks delivering relief would enter Gaza within the next 24 to 48 hours. Gaza, a 45-km-long enclave, has been under Israeli and Egyptian siege since Hamas seized power in 2007, and the 2.3 million people who live there endure horrific conditions as a result of Israel’s assault on the area.
